Due to recent changes in the application of the vehicle restriction program known as Lace and plateIt is important to know which vehicles are not allowed to drive on that day Bogota.
The Bogotá Mobility Secretariat explains that the vehicle restriction depends on the ending of the license plate, the type of vehicle, the day of the week and even the time.
The aim of the program is to reduce car traffic as part of a comprehensive program to reduce vehicle traffic and high levels of pollution in the city.
The Pico y Placa has been used in Bogotá since 1998, meaning it has been in operation for more than two decades. This is the schedule of restrictions for this June 8th, according to the city mayor’s office.
Date: Monday, December 8, 2025.
Individuals: Everyone
Taxis: Not applicable
Motorcycles: Not applicable
The traffic restriction begins at 5:30 a.m. for taxis and special transport and until 6:00 a.m. for private vehicles. The travel restriction ends at 9:00 p.m.
For freight vehicles, there are again two peak and plate schedules, the first from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and the second from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m

This is how the Pico y Plate vehicle restriction program works.
Private vehicles are divided into two groups based on the last digit of their license plate number. The first consists of the cars ending in 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 and the second consists of those ending in 6, 7, 8, 9 or 0.
Private cars with the endings 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 no longer run on even days. Those ending in 6, 7, 8, 9 or 0 cannot travel on odd-numbered days.

The Pico y Placa opening hours for private vehicles: from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding weekends and public holidays.
There are two driving restrictions for taxis and special transport vehicles: 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8, 9 and 0. The restriction for these two types of vehicles changes every week, so it is important to stay up to date.
Freight vehicles are now not allowed to drive during the Pico-y-Placa ban periods, but only on Saturdays, depending on the weight and age of the means of transport.
In contrast to private vehicles, the vehicle restriction applies from Monday to Friday for taxis, special transport and freight transport.

These are electric, hybrid, zero-emission vehicles, motorcycles, diplomatic service vehicles, funeral homes, emergency and security vehicles, vehicles for the transport of people with disabilities, traffic control and tow vehicles, media vehicles, law enforcement vehicles, school vehicles, vehicles intended for automotive lessons and vehicles occupied by three or more people from the beginning to the end of the journey.
In order for your car to benefit from the exemption, meaning its travel through the Pico y Placa is not affected, it must first be registered with the Bogotá Mobility Secretariat.
If your car is not on the exemption list but you want it to operate in Bogotá every day, you have the option of applying for the so-called Pico y Placa Solidario, a permit that gives drivers the opportunity to choose the days, weeks or months in which they can drive freely around the city in exchange for an economic contribution, which is intended to improve the Colombian city’s integrated public transport system.
In addition to the traditional vehicle restriction, Bogotá has another one called Pico y Placa Regional, which applies on the last day of all holiday weekends in the Colombian city’s nine entry corridors.
The restriction on vehicles with license plates ending in an odd number applies from 12:00 p.m. The driving ban for vehicles with straight license plates begins at 4:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m.

The nine entry corridors to Bogotá where the Regional Peak and Plate apply are:
Northern highway: from the Andes toll booth to the north portal.
Southern highway: from the municipal border of Soacha to Avenida Boyacá.
Centenario Avenue (13th Street): from the Bogotá River to Ciudad de Cali Avenue (Carrera 86 Avenue).

In the event of a violation of the Pico y Placa in any of its versions, the Bogotá authorities have a system of economic sanctions in place.
The fine in 2023 is 522,900 Colombian pesos. In addition, the car will be immobilized as stated in the National Traffic Code for violation C.14.
