Nico Moscardini’s clenched fist after the race / video recording
Nicolás Moscardini did not have an optimal start to his duel for the TC Pista Silver Cup on Sunday. The Ford of the team prepared by Martínez Competition Dowen Pagio Racing was not at the level of Marco Dianda (Dodge), who arrived at the last appointment as leader – with a good lead over the man from La Plata – who would eventually become champion and achieve one of the promotions.
The pilot from the Los Hornos district has not been fast compared to Dianda since Friday’s training. He finished twenty-second in the standings. Dianda came fourth; while Baustita Damiani (Chevrolet) was the fastest on the “Roberto Mouras” Autodrom track in La Plata.
As far as the series goes, Moscardini finished second in fifth place (eight races), so he ended up starting from the tenth pit box. Dianda came third and the pole was Gastón Iansa (Chevrolet) with only eighteen participants present at the TC Pista finale in Mouras.
At the pre-race meeting between Moscardini, Gurí Martínez and the rest of the team’s mechanics, there were some improvements to the La Plata driver’s engine unit, but the target of promotion opportunity was on the side of the second-placed team in the overall standings.
Winning the Silver Cup was practically a miracle, despite the four races that Moscardini won that season, since to win the title and therefore promotion, the driver from La Plata had to finish in the top three; Dianda (17 years old, from the 2,500-inhabitant town of Guatimozín in Córdoba, who has not yet completed secondary school due to her age) had to come up with something that was almost impossible to achieve.
In this sense, Moscardini had to stay close during the twenty rounds of the competition, especially to Rodrigo Lugón, Joaquín Ochoa and Gaspar Chansard.
At the start, Moscardini lost position with Lugón’s Ford because he finished eleventh; while Gastón Baustista Damiani, Tomás Abdala (Ford), Gastón Iansa, Marcos Dianda himself, Gaspar Chansard (Toyota Camry) and Faustino Cifre (Ford) were ahead and doing their own race. By the time the top three crossed the finish line, they were on the podium.
After Juan Manuel Tomasello (Chevrolet), a “small platoon” was put together, which also included Moscardini. With eleventh place, the man from La Plata knew he would move up, but he shouldn’t make any mistakes and stay focused.
About halfway through the race, Moscardini was overtaken by Santiago Biagi (Dodge). The man from La Plata bit the dust, but was able to get the car back on the track and finished 12th.
In the end, Moscardini (25 years old) managed to promote TC to second place in the overall table, beating Rodrigo Lugón by just 5.25 points. A definition of heart attack.
