The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, will meet with his European allies in London this Monday (December 8, 2025) after his American counterpart Donald Trump accused him of not reading Washington’s proposal to end the conflict.
The meeting comes after several days of talks between authorities from Ukraine and the United States in Miami that ended without progress.
The Ukrainian head of state will be received in London by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer together with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron. For her part, British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper will arrive in Washington on Monday to meet with her American counterpart Marco Rubio.
“The United Kingdom and the United States will reaffirm their commitment to a peace agreement in Ukraine,” the British ministry said in announcing Cooper’s trip.
Meanwhile, Moscow continued its attacks on Ukraine, with nine people injured in the last few hours, according to Kiev authorities.
Trump criticism
Zelensky said he had a “very substantive and constructive” telephone conversation with Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner during negotiations in Miami.
“Ukraine is determined to continue to honestly cooperate with the American side to achieve real peace,” Zelensky posted on Telegram.
However, Trump criticized the Ukrainian president on Sunday. “I’m a little disappointed that President Zelensky didn’t read Washington’s peace proposal,” he said.
Russia rejected parts of the U.S. plan after Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Witkoff and Kushner at the Kremlin last week.
Washington’s original plan to end the war in Ukraine called for Kiev to hand over territory to Russia in exchange for some security guarantees.
However, these guarantees are unclear and the plan did not find support in either Ukraine or Europe.
Trump initially appeared to warm to Putin and criticized Zelensky, but has become increasingly frustrated by the failure of his efforts to persuade the Russian leader to end the war.
