The craftsman Bernardete Goulart has already transformed the arrival of Christmas into a traditional attraction of the Baixada Fluminense. This year it celebrates the 17th edition of its sustainable decoration, installed at number 62 of Rua Waldete Charmom do Carmo Lima, in the Monte Virgínia neighborhood, in Nova Iguaçu. Using recyclable materials, the professional creates an illuminated corridor on the sidewalk in front of her house every year, attracting residents, visitors and admirers from various regions.
- A brief life in the hands of crime: for a year, O GLOBO followed ten adolescents involved in drug trafficking; six are already dead
- Dangerous Connections: Since September, at least seven arrests of public officials suspected of links to drug traffickers
For this Christmas, the craftsman has prepared new products that are already arousing curiosity in the neighborhood, based on the careful restoration of classic pieces that are part of the emotional memory of the community. Some of them are: an angel playing a harp, an illuminated windmill, a fairground truck, a Christmas tree and a nativity scene.
The entire scenography is made from materials intended to be thrown away, such as PET bottles, crates, scraps of wood, rigid cardboard, PVC tubes and scraps of fabric. The result is a road that becomes a real tourist spot in the city, warming emotional memories and strengthening the feeling of communion.
- Messages: messages reveal TH Jóias’ dedication to Bacellar, who responds by calling the former deputy “brother”
The street has now become a tourist spot in the city
Entire families visit the street, children line up to be photographed next to the sculptures, and residents say the atmosphere transforms the neighborhood throughout the month of December. Bernardete says he receives all this with emotion:
— Christmas always reminds us that the magic lies in the small gestures. This is what I try to put into every piece I produce. I thank everyone who appreciates my work and I hope that the magic of Christmas brightens everyone’s lives.
- “It’s hard to hear your son say he loved being a criminal.”: A mother says she fought to save a young man from crime; he was associated with CV da Penha
The craftsman works throughout the year: creating new pieces, restoring old ones, testing lighting mechanisms and organizing assembly, which usually begins months before opening.
— Every year, I dedicate myself to transforming a simple street into paths of charm, hope and renewal. Every piece I make, every light turned on, every bow placed carries something that cannot be bought: dedication, affection and the sincere desire to make everyone’s life a little lighter — she says.
