Julio Iglesias has been away from the media spotlight for some time, but he is occasionally splashed by topics related to his life. The last one referred to Javier Santos, his alleged unrecognized son, which reopened the file for the artist to recognize it as such.
The story dates back to the 70s, when Julio Iglesias and the Portuguese Edite Santos, a former dancer and model, had a brief relationship which bore fruit for their son, as she has repeatedly said. For years, both have been trying to obtain a recognition of the artist, but the file has been filed.
Fernando Osuna, the young man’s lawyer, offered new information on this subject to the newspaper ABCwhere he stressed that they planned to take the lawsuit to the American courts. “We are looking for an American law firm that wants to work with us,” The lawyer assured the aforementioned media while confirming that he had already contacted several offices in Miami.
It was in 2017 that Javier’s legal team obtained a genetic test that would turn the case 180 degrees. “It was an empty plastic bottle that Julio José Iglesias Preysler threw in a trash can while he was surfing on a beach in Miami. The detective was there, watching it, picked it up, analyzed it and gave a result of 99% fraternity“Osuna clarified.
This was presented to the Valencia Court, where the case was reopened and in July 2019, the Valencia Court of First Instance ruled in favor of Javier Santos: “We won, the judge said yes, it was Julio Iglesias, Javier’s father”recalled the judge, although the artist refused up to three times to carry out a paternity test to determine and appeal to the Provincial Court of Valencia, which did not deny paternity, but ruled that the case could not be returned to court because it had already been resolved.
“The Constitutional Court said the same thing… and so did the European Court. That the trial could not be repeated. The appeal was filed more than two and a half years ago, almost three. They haven’t responded yet. The UN is very difficult… They have to react, but we don’t know when,” Osuna explained, because this international organization is one of his last assets.
Likewise, Fernando Osuna said he tried to contact the children of Julio Iglesias, without success: “The brothers They say it’s a question that doesn’t concern them. It’s his father’s thing. “They don’t want to get involved.”
“Javier doesn’t want any more money. He only wants his dignity and his status as the son of Julio Iglesias. He resigns through all kinds of documents. And according to the law, no one is obliged to accept the legitimate. If you don’t want it, you don’t take it (…) He has the peace of mind of knowing that, at the genetic level, he is a son. This doubt no longer exists. The test with Julio José revealed that they were brothers,” the lawyer concluded about his client.
