Maravilla Martínez returned to goal after 10 games without scoring
Adrián Martínez ended a streak of 966 minutes without scoring a goal. He scored his last goal on September 16 when Racing beat Vélez 1-0 in the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores in Liniers.
With that in mind, Maravilla found the back of the net again last night at La Bombonera against Boca after going 10 games without a goal in all competitions. In addition, he signed for the La Ribera team for the fourth time.
The Academy striker was suffering from a goal drought that he had never experienced since arriving at the Avellaneda team. Although he had the chance to score in previous games, luck was not on his side on other occasions, like in the previous game against Tigre.
In this way, after the goal at the Xeneize Temple, the Campana native scored his 51st goal in the academy jersey in 83 games played. It was again the second in the Clausura tournament, the first came in the 2-3 defeat against Unión in Santa Fe.
On the other hand, he scored for the fourth time against Boca, where three of those goals came in Bransend 805 and the remaining one in El Cilindro. Three of them were at Racing and the other at Instituto.
Following this line, on March 19, 2023, wearing Gloria Cordoba’s jersey, he scored the second goal in a 3-2 win with Diego Davobe as coach at La Bombonera. On March 10 last year, in the Professional League Cup, also at La Bombonera, he scored one goal in a 4-2 defeat (the other was scored by Juanfer Quintero). While on February 8, 2025 at Cilindro he scored the 2-0 lead in the Apertura tournament (Lucho Vietto scored the rest).
The most recent was last night in Racing’s 1-0 win over Boca in the semi-finals of the championship, as a guest, which also meant qualification for the final of the competition.
“IT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT GOAL”
After the goal against Boca, Maravilla Martínez said about the goal: “I’m happy, it was a very important goal. God shaped me and prepared me for the goal.”
At the same time, he also thanked the racing fans for their encouragement: “I thank the people for their support, because when things weren’t going well for me, they supported me.”
