USA It is a country much admired by the whole world but which clearly arouses suspicion due to some of its policies, at least in certain sectors. For example, many Spaniards are surprised by the differences that exist in terms of health, since here we have … A free and universal public system.
There, and in fact in some countries, there is a health network with so many services in the citizen’s wallet. It is for this reason that it is common for foreigners who come to Spain and need to be treated to be amazed by the operation. Likewise, ending up in an outpatient clinic or hospital in the United States is also a culture shock, but for different reasons.
NOW Chusa young Spaniard who has lived there for some time because he studies there as a university athlete, forcibly experienced what it means to have to go to the emergency room of a hospital and told his story through his TikTok (@chuusitoo)in a publication that exceeds 288,000 views.
“It was something that couldn’t wait.”
“This is the harsh reality of health care in the United States and I tell you this from the inside, because I had to be hospitalized for a whole day», Chus begins his video. As he explains, it all started when he went to the health center with a sore throat and they confirmed with a test that he had tonsils and prescribed him antibiotics and other pills. After three or four days, he explains: “I wasn’t feeling better at all and on Monday and Tuesday, I couldn’t even open my mouth, so after two days without eating, I returned to the health center.”
That day, for example, he couldn’t even open his mouth very well. “It hurts a lot, every time I have tonsillitis it goes away in a day and a half, two, I’ve been on antibiotics for five and I’m worse than the first day,” he lamented. “At the end the joke got a little out of hand and I had to go to the hospital,” he continues.
“They were measuring my vital signs, they gave me a wire to give me serum and they decided that we needed to do a CT scan, because I had a 3 centimeter plaque of pus in the middle of my throat,” remembers the young man, who does not want to “dramatize” but who remembers that “They rushed me to another hospital, where an ENT doctor had to drain it for me and it was something that couldn’t wait.
In fact, they told him he might end up without air circulation. There they warned him that the remedy could hurt a lot. “They put a needle about 8 or 10 centimeters in my mouth until it hit the end of my throat, which made me the biggest loss of my life“, he laments, emphasizing that “I screamed a lot, I cried and I sweated a lot.”
The doctors numbed his throat and then, with another needle, removed the pus. After warning the delicate, he shows the three and a half centimeters of liquid that have been removed. “With that taken away, I can tell you that I feel much better, I can eat almost anything, even though I still have about 8 days of antibiotics left,” he remarks, with one last thought.
“What I want to convey with this video is that something as simple as tonsillitis could be, if it complicates things in Spain, they will fix it for free in a moment,” says Chus, finishing by saying that he does not know how much he will have to pay for this care “and I don’t even want to know.” “Enjoy what you have in Spain because, honestly, it’s okay,” said the young man.
