Iceland is one of the most impressive countries in the world. Its landscapes seem to come from another planet and the trip is generally unforgettable. Despite this, its reputation as a very expensive destination makes many think twice. Is it really that bad?
On this subject … the TikTok user spoke @jesusansala young Spaniard who recently visited the country and wanted to see for himself, in a supermarket, if the prices are as high as they say.
In his video, Jesús explains that many people travel to Iceland with a suitcase full of food because “Food costs more than flying.” To remove any doubt, go to a supermarket ready to check. “Let’s see if it’s as expensive as they say,” he comments at the beginning.
What are the prices in Iceland?
The first figures quickly confirm this: a few strawberries for 800 Icelandic crowns (5.45 euros), a baguette for 1,065 crowns (7.25 euros) or even a ham and cheese sandwich for 750 crowns (5.10 euros). Medium-sized olive oil costs up to 1,300 crowns (8.85 euros). Even instant noodles cost 800 crowns: 5.45 euros. “Husband, how expensive,” he laments as he walks through the corridors.
The list continues with a few slices of Serrano ham for 500 crowns (3.40 euros) and a small pot of Icelandic shark for 1,300 crowns (8.85 euros). Each product confirms the same feeling.
At the end he lists the price of a simple breakfast – a few donuts, water and a juice – which amounts to 2,000 crowns, approximately 13.65 euros. “Iceland will have spectacular views, but it is expensive for a while,” he concludes in his publication, clarifying that the fame is not exaggerated.
