Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau decided to end the speculation and confirmed their relationship by sharing on social networks a series of pictures taken during the singer’s stay in Japan, where she continues her Lifetimes tour.
After months of rumors, secret meetings and an unexpected diplomatic visit, both posted photos and videos on Instagram that make clear the emotional bond they have maintained since the middle of this year.
The publication, shared over the weekend, is accompanied by the sentence: “Days in Tokyo during the tour and something else.” Below the footage is a selfie of them appearing close together in the autumn light, and a video of them enjoying dinner while exchanging knowing glances.
This “digital debut” follows a lengthy attempt to keep the relationship away from the media. According to People, Trudeau began getting close to the artist in July when they met in Montreal and even traveled to California to see her during a break from his tour. “They have natural chemistry. She finds him very attractive and he has always been very respectful,” a source close to the matter said.
Suspicions first arose after they were seen having dinner together in Montreal. At the time, Perry was experiencing her recent split in June from Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares parenting of her five-year-old daughter Daisy Dove. Trudeau also recently went through a divorce: his separation from Sophie Grégoire was confirmed in 2023 after 18 years of marriage.
They performed again on various occasions over the summer, particularly while the singer traveled to several countries as part of her tour. In September, relatives assured that both tried to keep the relationship as discreet as possible, although they recognized that they were “very involved in each other.”
In October, the couple appeared in public again, celebrating Perry’s 41st birthday at a show at the Crazy Horse cabaret. There they were photographed hand in hand, smiling and not hiding.
The final confirmation came during the artist and Trudeau’s visit to Japan. At a stop on the tour, both met with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yuko for a diplomatic meeting that took place on December 3, surprising Perry’s supporters.
Kishida shared the meeting on Twitter, writing: “Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came to Japan with his partner and had lunch with my wife and I. During his time in office, we worked together to strengthen bilateral relations, including on the ‘Japan-Canada Action Plan’. I am pleased to maintain this friendship in this way.”
Trudeau responded warmly: “It was a pleasure to see you. Katy and I are pleased to be able to share this moment with you and Yuko. Thank you for your friendship and for your commitment to a better future for all.”
