The first hours of 24-hour operation of lines 1-Blue, 2-Green, 3-Red and 15-Silver of the São Paulo metro, from Saturday (6/12) to Sunday (7/12), recorded the entry of 13.8 thousand passengers, between 12:00 a.m. and 4:40 a.m., with 66 trips made during this period.
According to data published by the São Paulo government, line 3-Red recorded the largest movement, with 7.5 thousand boardings, followed by lines 2-Green (3.8 thousand) and 1-Blue (2.6 thousand). Line 15-Silver – which was operated by free buses from the Paese system, due to testing with trains from the new fleet – did not have demand data calculated this morning.
The initiative, in an experimental phase, responds to a historic demand from workers, tourists and night-goers in São Paulo and will be maintained every Saturday until February 2026, while Metrô evaluates demand, operational costs and possible adjustments. Integrations with dealers and CPTM remain unavailable at this time.
How does the 24-hour metro work?
- The four lines operated by the metro will operate 24 hours a day on Saturdays.
- The initiative will be carried out on an experimental basis, always from Saturday to Sunday.
- The 24-hour metro started on December 6 and will continue every weekend until February 2026 during this evaluation period.
- The objective is to analyze potential demand, technical and operational feasibility, as well as possible adjustments, to meet a long-standing demand from passengers and tourists who enjoy São Paulo’s nightlife attractions, as well as workers from establishments that operate during these hours.

The 24-hour operation will allow passengers to board and disembark at all stations of lines 1-Blue, 2-Green, 3-Red and 15-Silver throughout the morning, without the possibility of connecting to other metro lines (operated by concessionaires) and train, which will be closed.
Trains will run from midnight to 4:40 p.m., with intervals of 20 to 30 minutes between trains, as needed. Exceptionally on the sections of Line 2-Vert between Vila Madalena and ClÃnicas stations and between Sacomã and Vila Prudente, trains will run on a single track, in both directions (single track). On the rest of the line (ClÃnicas to Sacomã), as well as on lines 1-Blue and 3-Red, the operation will be carried out via both traffic lanes.
On Line 15-Silver, this first weekend, early morning service will be provided by a free PAESE system bus, due to testing with the new fleet train. After the test, the offer will be evaluated and can be resized to meet demand during the following weekends.
During this opening period, early in the morning, the ticket offices will not be open and passengers who do not have a Bilhete Único or TOP card will be able to purchase their tickets via the self-service machines, Google Wallet or WhatsApp (11 3888-2200). On lines 1-Blue and 3-Red, entry can be made by contactless payment, with physical credit and debit cards. Throughout the month of December, this option will also be valid on lines 2-Vert and 15-Argent.
