The Civil Police of Goiás (PCGO) acted, as part of an operation coordinated by the Civil Police of Rio Grande do Sul, to dismantle a criminal organization specialized in the illegal trade of abortifacient drugs via the Internet. The action took place in several Brazilian states.
The investigations made it possible to identify the activities of a group which called itself “Feel Welcome”, made up of several people, known internally as sellers.
Woman Arrested After Confessing to Participation in Illegal Abortion Ring
These alleged sellers were responsible not only for supplying illicit drugs, but also for providing technical assistance and detailed advice to buyers, thereby enabling abortions to be performed.
In Valparaíso de Goiás, on the outskirts of the Federal District, a woman was found in possession of abortifacient drugs of unknown origin. She confessed to her participation in the criminal organization and was arrested in flagrante delicto.
During the operation, more than ten search and seizure warrants were executed in different units of the Federation, in addition to the arrest of those under investigation directly involved in the actions investigated.
During the investigation, drugs of prohibited origin and sale were also seized.
Operation Aurora
The operation, coordinated by the Rio Grande do Sul Civil Police, was carried out simultaneously in 10 units of the federation.
The investigation began after a resident of Guaíba (RS) arrived at the hospital feeling severe pain and reporting that she had taken an abortifacient medication. At the time, the woman had expelled two fetuses.
“During interrogation, the woman stated that she had ingested the drug misoprostol, which had been sold to her on the Internet. Along with the drugs, the young woman also resorted to technical advisory services at the time of the abortion, which would be carried out “online” by “a doctor”. It turns out that, during the procedure, the person advising her began to take a long time to react, neglecting the pregnant woman and leaving her without assistance, in pain”, adds the note of the PCRS.
The police identified the administrators of the group in different states of the federation, with branches in Paraíba, Goiás, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and in the Federal District.
