The Dark Souls saga reaches 40 million units
Bandai Namco’s most recent financial report reveals that Dark Souls games total 40 million copies. Specifically, 39.71 million units sold.
It is a number that has already reached, and even exceeded, 40 million; given that Data refers to the fiscal year ending in March 2025.
It’s also important to note that these numbers are limited to Dark Souls: do not include other soulslikes from FromSoftwarewho did so well.
Starting with Elden Ring, which In April this year it surpassed 30 million unitsand; a figure that will be reinforced by the DLC, Shadows of the Erdtree and the multiplayer spin-off Nightreign.
Returning to Dark Souls, this 40 million is more impressive considering thatThe saga has gone almost ten years without receiving a new installment.
Dark Souls 3, 2016, exceeded 10 million units in all its versions; followed by the nearly six million from Dark Souls II and the five from the first installment.
Behind Dark Souls are the franchises of Naruto (36 million), Tales of (over 30 million) and a series with little popularity in the West: Super Robot Wars, which exceeds 20 million copies.
But as impressive as the soul figure is, it still falls short of Bandai Namco’s absolute king: his most emblematic fight saga.
Tekken accumulates more than 60 million copiesled by hits like Tekken 7, which surpassed 12 million units.
The “drip by drop” of Dark Souls sales registered record numbersbut FromSoftware is unlikely to resume the saga: it is now focusing on its Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods, and the rest of the projects it is secretly preparing.
