Canadian influencer Cameron Golinsky, 35, reported that he fell victim to the “Boa Noite, Cinderela” scam in Ipanema, in the southern region of Rio de Janeiro, on October 26.
According to the report, which he posted on social media and confirmed in a statement to the civil police, he was drugged by two men, robbed, and is believed to have been sexually assaulted.
The case has been registered at the 12th Police Station (Copacabana) and is being investigated by the Tourist Assistance Police Station (DET) and the Crimes Against Sexual Dignity Police Station.
The meeting
Cameron said he met the two suspects at an open-air bar in Ipanema, a place he had been visiting regularly since arriving in Brazil in February to learn Portuguese and produce vlogs about the country.
“Two men approached, started talking and invited me for a beer. This has happened other times, so I didn’t think it was suspicious,” the Canadian wrote online.
According to him, after drinking the drink, he began to feel “weirdly intoxicated”, despite having consumed a small amount of alcohol. The suspects then took him to the apartment where he was staying.
The influencer reported that he woke up two days later naked in his bed, with signs of violence, and the environment was turned upside down.
“They used a drug to knock me unconscious, stole all my money and phone, and evidence suggests I was sexually assaulted,” he wrote.
Account theft and hacking
Cameron said he lost about US$3,000 (about R$16,000) and his bank and email accounts were hacked. The attackers had changed his passwords, biometric data and digital access, preventing him from immediately recovering his financial information.
After regaining consciousness, the tourist went to the Canadian Consulate, obtained preventive medications and formally submitted the complaint to the civil police, who took his statements and conducted a forensic examination.

Despite the shock, the Canadian, who lived in Brazil for nine months, was keen to defend the country and thanked his Brazilian friends who helped him after the attack:
“This was the most traumatic experience of my life, but it was the work of two evil men, not from Brazil,” he said. “My Brazilian friends were great, they helped me with food, banking, rent and cleaning.”
He informed Golinski that he would leave Brazil to travel to Los Angeles and then return to Vancouver, where he intended to seek psychological support and assess the financial losses.
