None of the leaders of the political parties convince the citizens, which gives them a general suspension in the 40dB institute survey. at EL PAÍS and Cadena SER. The best score goes to the secretary general of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, with a score of 3.34 out of 10; followed by the president of Vox, Santiago Abascal (3h31); the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo (3.26); the prosecutor of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz (3h19) and the candidate of Podemos, Irene Montero (2h40). The Vox leader surpasses the most popular because in the PP electorate there are more voters who support Abascal than Feijóo supporters in the Vox caladero. The study reflects more problems for Pablo Casado’s successor: PP voters are better than Madrid’s president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso (7.9). Feijóo, with a rating of 7.2 in his own electorate, is tied with the capital’s mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and is only a tenth above the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla.

The probe (2,500 interviews online) took place between November 27 and December 1. These days, the Supreme Court sent the ex-minister and ex-secretary of the Socialist Organization José Luis Ábalos to his former advisor, Koldo García, for preventive arrest for his involvement in the alleged corruption plot centered on the purchase of masks during the pandemic and the PP called for a protest demonstration to demand the electoral adelanto. Previously, the Supreme Court sentenced the former state fiscal general, Álvaro García Ortiz, to years of imprisonment for revealing secrets in a fraud case affecting the Ayuso couple, Alberto González Amador. He was prosecuted for tax fraud and falsification of documents and is also the subject of an investigation for a bribe of half a million euros from the head of the Quirón health group which has hired his consultants since 2017.
The interviews took place before this newspaper discovered that the management company of the public hospital in Torrejón (Madrid) ordered the rejection of patients to earn more, and before Ayuso tried to minimize the incident by attributing it, firstly, to “rencillas between directors” and launched a “mezquina campaign” to “eclipse the number of professionals against the government”. The responses also include the impact on citizens of the latest revelations about the handling of accusations of harassment within the PSOE, which Sánchez considers a “mistake”. You can view all the survey data here.
The evolution of disenchantment comes from politics
The survey data is linked to the recurring inclusion of politicians, that is to say those responsible for providing solutions, in the list of main problems or concerns highlighted by citizens. When the institute is at 40dB. When asked which of the current leaders would be the best president for Spain, 22.7% answered “no one”, which is the same percentage that indicates that, among the available options, the best is the current one, Pedro Sánchez. There are also 41% of surveys that give a 0. In the case of Feijóo it is 33%.

However, the data reveals distinct developments in each candidate and clarifying data taking into account the complicated coordination of the PSOE and the Government brings a succession of corruption scandals and accusations of sexual harassment and after the break with one of Sánchez’s investiture partners, Junts. Thus, the socialist and popular leader has lost points among citizens since the 2023 general elections, but Feijóo’s fall is more pronounced, while the president of Vox has increased continuously since the elections. The barometer indicates that the right-wing blockade and the far-right bloc are strengthening their gains on the left, but above all, due to the rise of Abascal’s party, the PP has lost two percentage points of vote estimates since the general elections.
Valorization of PSOE leaders
The survey asked the city who valued six socialist leaders: the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García Page; the Catalan president, Salvador Illa; the ministers María Jesús Montero, Pilar Alegría and Óscar Puente and Sánchez himself. Of all, the best score among the general population is not the current one, Sino Page (average score of 4.5), because the PP electorate mostly approves of him and because it is the socialist who arouses the least rejection among Vox voters. However, among the PSOE supporters, the president of Castilla-La Mancha is the lowest rated of the six. The preferred representative of the socialists for the voters of Sumar is the vice president and minister of Hacienda, while those of Podemos are decanted by Illa.

On a list of seven qualities (“preparedness”; “determination”; “honor”; “long-term strategic vision”; “deciding what people think”; “crisis management ability” and “empathy”), Page is ranked highest among the general population of the six socialist leaders mentioned above, followed by Illa. Sánchez receives his highest rating in “determination” (4.3) and his lowest (3.2) in “honor”.
In the PSOE electorate, however, Sánchez obtained a notable performance in all the qualities mentioned, highlighting his preparation (7.8), his determination (7.8) and his crisis management capacity (7.5), while Page obtained the worst scores in all categories.
Valorization of PP leaders
Among the general population, the leader of the PP who obtained the best score (4.48) is the president of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, although he is also one of the most unknown (only 24.5% know who he is). Followed by the President of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, with an average score of 4.35 and a much higher knowledge score (92.3%); the president of Gallego, Alfonso Rueda; the Andalusian Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla; the mayor of the capital and finally, Feijóo: 98.9% knowledge; Average rating of 3.26.

In terms of electorates, in addition to imposing Feijóo among PP supporters, Ayuso is also the preferred popular leader of the Vox electorate, followed by Rueda, Azcón, Moreno and Martínez-Almeida. Between the support of the PSOE, Sumar y Podemos, the popular one that generates the least rejection is Azcón.
Feijóo assumed the presidency of the PP in April 2022 after, precisely, the first leader of the party elected in a primary, Pablo Casado, lost a fight against Ayuso. In his first speech to the people, the Gallego leader marked his distance from Vox and from the hyperboles of the Madrid president: “I don’t come to insult Sánchez, I come to win”; “Moderation is not shy, dialogue is not limited” -, however, he allowed the far right to enter the autonomous governments chaired by the PP and, in line with Ayuso – and always behind her – the tone of his interventions against the government rose by several decibels.
Among the general population, popular party president and wannabe La Moncloa is the lowest rated of the six party leaders mentioned above in all categories, scoring their worst in “empathy” (3.5); “crisis management capacity” (3.6) and “honor” (3.7). Among PP voters, Ayuso scored highest in all attributes: 8.9 for “determination”; 7.9 in “strategic vision”, “preparation” and “crisis management capacity” —; by him from Feijóo, who occupies the second position of all the leaders mentioned in the evaluation of his preparation, strategic vision and honesty.
Vox voters approved Ayuso in all six qualities mentioned, scoring 6.7 for “determination,” while suspending Feijóo in all sections.
