Flames struck the Wang Fuk Court residential complex in Tai Po district in late November.
The total number of victims, announced last week, stands at 159, after inspection of all affected towers in the residential complex. That number rose to 160 after forensic examinations revealed that a previously listed set of remains actually belonged to two people, Police Commissioner Joe Chow said.
Authorities also confirmed that six people were still missing. The identities of 120 of the 160 dead were established through DNA or fingerprint testing.
According to the government, the flames spread quickly through the plastic netting that covered the bamboo scaffolding installed for the construction work, a material that did not meet fire resistance standards.
