The countdown to New Year’s Eve has begun at Copacabana. The attractions have been set for the main theatre, which will go live in front of the Copacabana Palace Hotel on the 5th. Gilberto Gil, Pernambuco singer João Gomez and DJ Alok will welcome the arrival of 2026. The concert will conclude with the beating of the Bega Flor drums – traditionally, the performance is from the school that won the last show.

Scenographer Abel Gomez, producer of the Enseida de Botafogo Christmas Tree and Copacabana New Year’s Eve, revealed yesterday that there will be changes to the fireworks display in the New Year. For the first time, fireworks will be mounted on 19 rafts – nearly double the 10 structures traditionally used at the festival since the fireworks display was moved, as a safety measure, from the sandbar to the high seas in early 2000 to 2001.
-We want to provide a new experience to the audience. The sky will be covered more with fireworks, but we will keep the show duration to 12 minutes, which is the perfect time for an unforgettable party. Abel Gomez explained that small and large ferries will be arranged alternately on the beach.
Before the samba, Alok must take the stage immediately after the fireworks, performing an electronic music show with hundreds of drones in the sky.
Retor’s president, Bernardo Fillo, confirmed that as last year, two more stages will be created in Copacabana: one for samba fans and the other for gospel music performances.
The fireworks will be manufactured in China, which will generate less noise than traditional fireworks. The show will be accompanied by a soundtrack composed especially for this occasion. The rocket operator is a long-time partner of Abel Gomez both on New Year’s Eve and at the fireworks at the conclusion of Rock in Rio: Marcelo Cocuti, from Vision Shows. This year he will be reinforced by a French coach who worked at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2016 Olympics.
Colleagues also confirmed that stages for performances will be set up in ten other neighbourhoods: Ilha do Governador, Paquita, Cipitipa, Parque Oeste (Anhuipa), Guaratiba, Relengo, Ramos and Penha. In Praia do Flamengo, in addition to the shows, there will be fireworks.
In Barra and Recreo, special fireworks displays will light up ten spots in hotels and residential units.
