A chilling “If I want to speak to God” in the voice of Ney Matogrosso suggests that this would be the big moment of the tribute to Gilberto Gil on Tuesday evening, at the end of the Multishow 2025 Awards. Big mistake: there was still “A Paz”, in the video, with Chico Buarque, Herbert Vianna, Maria Bethânia… and Roberto Carlos. And old friend Caetano Veloso, replacing Ney on stage, for a “Drão” costume. With his trophy in hand, Gil decided that after all that, the best thing to do on this awards night was to talk about the “sequels and continuations” of Brazilian music.
“Here we are and we continue from here, thank you very much!” declared the singer and composer (who spent 2025 touring Brazil with his farewell tour Tempo Rei), before singing, with the show band, his songs “Toda Menina Bahiana” and “Andar com fé”.

During an agile ceremony – for the first time broadcast live simultaneously on TV Globo, Multishow and Globoplay – the Multishow Award overtook Gil, in its mission to highlight, in a limited time, the diversity and richness of Brazilian music in 2025.
The opening of the evening was with the tambourine of Marcos Suzano and the participation of several Brazilian musical artists, in video, to the classic “Chiclete com Banana” by Jackson do Pandeiro. The theme of the celebration – music that moves Brazil – was chosen by presenters Tadeu Schmidt and Kenya Sade, with the aim of defining a year in which Brazilian music was more mixed – more banana gum and jelly in general – than ever before.
Dominguinho, by João Gomes (announced before the tribute to Gil as Artist of the Year), Jota.pê and Mestrinho, one of the biggest hits of 2025, made the first performance of the evening – and shortly after received the prize for forró and piseiro of the year for “Beija-flor”. The trio would also win the prize for cover of the year and one of the main prizes of the evening, that of album of the year, in a moment consecrating in a short trajectory, but destined for high flights.

And the evening of the Multishow Awards 2025 had its moments of musical brilliance. Roberta Miranda and Ana Castela, who were supposed to meet, ended up singing separately, on different stages – with the advantage of Ana, who came with ballet and sound power. Gospel star, Thales Roberto arrived with rock aggression after a commendable duet with Maria Marçal. Gaby Amarantos (who would win the Nerdy of the Year award for “Foguinho”) made a triumphant entrance, atop an elephantine sound system, eclipsing Filipe Ret and Marina Sena with her crazy high-voltage rock.
Some moments of the evening were special, like veteran singer Evinha receiving the Urban Music of the Year award for her song with BK. Or that of Planet Hemp, which embodies its farewell tour, winner of rock of the year. Kannalha honored Preta Gil by receiving the axe and pagoda of the year award. Arlindinho also remembered his father, Arlindo Cruz (as well as Preta, one of the big losses of 2025) by singing “O meu place”, and alongside newcomer Yan, “The show must go on”.
