Flamengo makes its debut this Wednesday (10/12) in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. Rubro-Negro plays Cruz Azul, at 2 p.m. (Brasilia time), in Al-Rayya, Qatar. The conflict, entitled “Derby of the Americas”, will test the loyalty of the Brazilian team against the Mexican teams.
In history, Flamengo has faced teams from Mexico 19 times, with six wins, two draws and 11 losses. Against this Wednesday’s opponent, for example, the red and black record is negative, with two defeats and a draw.

The last time the Rio club faced a Mexican team was in 2014, when they lost 3-2 to León at the Maracanã in the Copa Libertadores group stage. The negative result resulted in the elimination of the Brazilian team from the continental tournament.
However, the most painful for Flamengo fans was the 3-0 defeat to América do México, also at Maracanã, in the round of 16 for the Libertadores that year. After winning 4 x 2 at the Azteca Stadium, Flamengo saw Salvador Cabañas shine with two goals and contribute to a historic 3 x 0 turnaround on Brazilian soil.
