The Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF) is investigating a complaint filed by the owner of a shih tzu dog, who claims that the animal returned home with injuries to the anal gland area after undergoing treatment at a pet store in Guará II, on November 22 this year.
In the column, nurse Raiña Rocha Hernández, owner of eight-year-old Otto, reported that the dog showed bleeding and atypical behavior when he returned home.
According to her, the establishment did not provide images from surveillance cameras and claimed that there had been a power outage while the shih tzu was being treated.

According to the owner, the dog was delivered to the pet store around 3 p.m. and when she returned to pick him up around 5 p.m. she realized something was wrong.
“When I arrived, the pet store was closed and two guys were at the reception, with Otto crying on the counter. They explained to me that they couldn’t do the grooming with the machine because, according to them, Otto was irritated,” he detailed.
At home, she noticed the dog had difficulty moving and left traces of blood when sitting. Desperate, she looked for a private veterinarian.
“The moment I grabbed his tail, he lunged at me. Only then did I notice his anus was completely torn. I tried to calm down to decide what to do, took pictures for memory, and then informed the pet store.”
The nurse took Otto to the vet, who prescribed antibiotics and painkillers and confirmed the lesions in the anal area.
“I went to the pet store, asked for the camera footage, and on Monday the 24th they said they hadn’t done the grooming with the machine because his skin was sensitive, so they cut his hair with scissors. I explained that I wasn’t wondering why the grooming hadn’t been done, but rather why he had been injured,” he said.
After requesting the images, officials at the facility informed that it would not be possible to share them because there had been a power outage in the city.
“I live in Guará and I didn’t witness that power outage. I was ready to go, but they said they couldn’t access the videos from that day. After 48 hours, I filed a report with the police and that’s it,” he lamented.

Contacted by the Chronicle, the owner of the establishment said that there had been no mistreatment and that the injuries were the result of dermatitis from which the dog was already suffering.
“We have an audio recording of her explaining that the dog was suffering from this problem, which is usually triggered by stress. She asked for access to the footage to see if the dog had experienced stress. We explained to her that yes, that he had experienced stress because she had taken him on Saturday, a very busy day, with the dryer and the fan on, so the animal may have been stressed,” he said.
The owner claimed employees were unable to perform grooming because the dog already had an injured anal area.
“We did not make the images available because there was a problem with the camera due to the power supply and we lost some recordings. After explaining that we could not provide the images, she changed her speech saying that it was mistreatment,” he said.
Investigation
Otto’s owner filed a police report at the 4th Police Station (Guará) and then requested help from the Police Station for the Suppression of Crimes Against Animals (DRCA), which sent the woman and dog to the Public Veterinary Service of the Federal District (HVEP) for examination.
The civil police are awaiting the conclusion of the report.
