The extreme cold caused by an arctic air mass in Spain last November provided a respite to move to less aggressive temperatures.
This was highlighted by the Aémet at the start of the week: “Mild temperatures for the season, without … intense cold.” However, what returns this week in our country is rain. The National Meteorological Agency predicts the “arrival of fronts which will cause rain in the western half of the peninsula”. These could furthermore be “strong and persistent.”
☔️ The arrival of fronts will cause rain in the western half of the peninsula from Tuesday or Wednesday. They will be incredibly strong and persistent.

The rains arrive from this Wednesday
Already on Tuesday afternoon, rain appeared in places. But that’s it Wednesday, when the fronts should be most extensiveaccording to Aemet. As for the snow, it will appear at high levels because the temperatures are not that cold and it is even expected that thermometers can reach up to 24 degrees in some parts of the Mediterranean.
In detail, for this Wednesday, the sky will be mostly cloudy on the peninsula, although this should not affect the eastern coast or the Balearic Islands. Precipitation will, however, occur over large areas of the peninsula: “The southwest quadrant will receive the largest accumulations with the probability of being strong in Huelva without excluding persistent ones”.
Aemet also warns that in areas of west of the central system Precipitation could also be locally heavy. In the Canaries, the sky will be cloudy and the rains may be light in this case on the northern and eastern slopes of the islands.
As for temperatures, maximum temperatures will drop in the Canary Islands and most of the peninsula, especially on the southern plateau and in the interior of Andalusia. Minimums will decrease in the Cantabrian Sea, in the northwest quadrant of the peninsula and in Ampurdán, with few changes in the islands and a predominance of increases in the rest.
Thursday, more stability
Although the sky may remain cloudy for this day, the day is expected to be marked by stability in the Balearic Islands and most of the peninsula.
However, they can also be given precipitation, especially in the late hours, in the third northwest and west-central systemwith the possibility of being locally strong on the Galician Atlantic coast. In the Gulf of Cádiz, in the Strait and west of Alborán, occasional precipitation could also occur.
The maximums will fall on the eastern side of the peninsula, east of Alborán, in the interior of the northwest of the peninsula and south of the Canary Islands and the increases will predominate in the rest. The minimums will experience little change in the Balearic Islands, the northern third of the peninsula and the coasts of the eastern facade and will decrease in the rest.
