Telefónica appoints former PNV president Andoni Ortuzar to Movistar+ board

The former president of the PNV, Andoni Ortuzarwill be part of the board of directors of Movistar+. The decision was adopted on Tuesday by the board of directors of Movistar+, as announced The mail.

Ortuzar will join the management body of Telefónica Audiovisual Digital (TAD), a subsidiary of the operator and responsible for audiovisual production and management activities under the Movistar+ brand.

According to sources close to the operation, the company’s objective is to strengthen the governance of the platform.

Born in 1962, Ortuzar worked at “Deia” and was general director of EiTB between 1999 and 2008when he was appointed president of the Bizkai buru batzar, a position he held until 2013, when he became head of the PNV.

His television experience is one of the elements that Telefónica considered relevant in recruiting him. The telecommunications company has an activity that makes it one of the main platforms in Spain and holds the rights to broadcast La Liga, as well as other sports and competitions, both national and international.

The operator also focuses on its own production of series and films. From the company chaired by Marc Murtra It is considered that its integration will strengthen “public dialogue”, the capacity for institutional relations and “the strategic reading of the audiovisual regulatory environment”.

Other movements

In this context, it should be remembered that the Official Journal of the Trade Register (BORME), at the beginning of this month, included the signature of the Daniel Clivillea manager with whom the president of teleco, Marc Murtra, coincided in several companies.

Concretely, Clivillé replaced Verónica Pascual on the board of directors of Telefónica Audiovisual Digital, the subsidiary of the group which manages Movistar+.

Murtra met with the Catalan director of the Barcelona sustainable parcel company Karibouwhose board of directors was chaired by Clivillé between December 2023 and last November and of which the current president of Telefónica was a member in a similar period (he joined in 2023 and left in the middle of this year).

In addition to Karibou, the professional paths of Murtra and Clivillé also crossed within the financial consulting firm specializing in corporate operations Crea Inversión.

Murtra was managing partner of Crea Inversión between 2016 and 2019 (he was a partner between 2011 and 2016), while Clivillé has been a partner of the consultancy since May 2017.

Telefónica Audiovisual Digital’s board of directors was almost completely renewed this yearknowing that with the exception of María Yolanda Barcina Angulo (appointed in July 2016) and Rosauro Varo (since July 2023), the rest of the members of the supreme decision-making body of the subsidiary were appointed in 2025.

In fact, the most important change in the Movistar+ board since the arrival of Marc Murtra as president of Telefónica in mid-January this year was the appointment of Javier de Paz as president of the body at the beginning of last March, replacing Sergio Oslé (who will soon become the new executive president of Mediapro).

Another of the changes introduced in the management structure of Movistar+ since the arrival of Murtra at Telefónica has been the appointment of Daniel Domenjo as CEO of Movistar+, a position in which he replaces Cristina Burzako, who recently signed for the American fund Providence, where she will lead the sports and wellness vertical of the investment company.
