Instability affects Southeast, South and other regions, with risks of storms and temperature changes
THE extratropical cyclone formed in the south of the country continues to influence the climate this Wednesday 10, causing rains of different intensities, localized thunderstorms, strong winds and temperature variations, according to data from Climate.
In Sao PauloRain accompanied by strong gusts of wind is expected, with a maximum temperature of 28°C. In the state, rain showers, which have been occurring since early morning, are expected to intensify in the afternoon in the northern, northeast, eastern and coastal regions, with moderate to heavy volumes and the risk of thunderstorms on the border with southern Minas Gerais, decreasing until early evening.
Still in the South-East, a new cold front associated with cyclone favors moderate to heavy precipitation in Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro And Holy Spirit.
In the Center-West, North-East and North regions, the day will be marked by showers of intensity varying from moderate to heavy.
To the south, the cyclone advances slowly towards the ocean, maintaining rain in the Rio Grande do Sul and in Saint Catherinewith greater intensity in the eastern half of Rio Grande do Sul and south of Santa Catarina, where there is a risk of storms and a dangerous situation in the southeast of the RS. To the south and southwest of Parana and throughout much of SC, precipitation ranges from moderate to heavy.
Wind gusts are between 50 and 70 km/h in most of the region, reaching 90 km/h in the eastern half and exceeding this value on the coast of Rio Grande do Sul and south of Santa Catarina. In the west of the region and in the north and east of Paraná and Santa Catarina, temperatures are increasing.
Impacts of rains in the south of the country
On Tuesday 9, cities in the South were the most affected by the damage caused by the rains. Flowers of Cunhaa town located 142 kilometers from Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul, was hit by a tornado that destroyed buildingsdamage to plants and roofs of houses, businesses and buildings belonging to the municipality’s education and health networks.
The city recorded damage to at least 80 homes, affecting around 2,000 residents. Damage included the roof of the community church, a basic health unit (BHU), a school and several businesses in the community of Alfredo Chaves. Over the past 12 hours, the city recorded 69.2 mm of rain.
At least nine other municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul also reported storm damage.
In PalhoçaIn Saint Catherinea couple and a baby aged around a year old were found dead after the vehicle they were in was swept away by heavy flooding.
The baby was found dead by the river while the couple was in the car.partially submerged and trapped by the current. Documents found in the vehicle indicate the family was foreign, but their nationality was not disclosed.
