The Ministry of Planning and Budget confirmed this Wednesday that the minimum wage will be adjusted from the current R$1,518 to R$1,621, an increase of R$103, or an adjustment of 6.79%.
This value was confirmed after the publication of the National Consumer Price Index (INPC), used to calculate the annual adjustment of the minimum wage. The indicator recorded 0.03% in November and accumulated 4.18% in 12 months.
The minimum wage adjustment will be applied from January 2026, with an effect on the salary that the worker will receive in February.
The minimum wage adjustment rule determines that the value has two corrections: one for the 12-month INPC accumulated until November of the previous year, or 4.18%, and another for economic growth over two years.
On the 4th, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reviewed data on gross domestic product (GDP, the sum of goods and services produced in the country) for 2024, confirming an expansion of 3.4%.
However, the budgetary framework, a mechanism which controls the evolution of public spending, determines that the gain in relation to inflation is limited to a range of 0.6% to 2.5%.
According to the rule, the minimum wage in 2026 would be R$1,620.99 and, with the rounding provided by law, it becomes R$1,621, an adjustment of 6.79%.
The results of the indices will lead the government to review the calculations of public accounts next year, since the 2026 budget orientation bill, approved by the National Congress, estimated the minimum wage at R$1,627, an adjustment of 7.18%.
