Koei Tecmo confirms the arrival of the remake of Project Zero 2 Crimson Butterfly in March 2026, and this means that three great horror sagas will coincide again.
If you lived through the first half of the 2000s, you will agree that Project Zero (Fatal Frame in Japan and America) was one of the main horror sagas of the PS2 and Xbox generation, almost at the same time as Resident Evil and Silent Hill, the two colossi from Capcom and Konami.
Last night at State of Play Japan we were very happy when Koei Tecmo confirmed the date of Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remakewhich will be available in March 2026.
Specifically, it will be March 12 next year when the Project Zero 2 remake arrives PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PCwith Physical editions available on PS5 and Switch 2and a Deluxe edition full of extras in digital format.
It’s not only the return of one of the horror gems of the turn of the century (the original was released for PS2 and Xbox), but also a turning point for three important Japanese horror sagas.
AND the first time since 2012 that Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Project Zero/Fatal Frame coincide in the same semestergreat news for horror lovers. And this is without taking into account possible third parties who join this party.
Furthermore, for the North American public it will be the first time that Fatal Frame 2 will receive a new version, as the Wii game did not see the light in that territorybut in Europe and Japan.
Fatal Frame 2 Remake makes us nostalgic
Now it’s official: 2026 will be a big year for three vital Japanese horror sagas, such as Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Fatal Frame (Project Zero in Europe), as each will release new games that will make for an unforgettable semester.
The last time this happened was in 2012when Three games from these sagas were assembled in a few months: Silent Hill Downpour, Project Zero 2 Wii Edition and Resident Evil 6.
Since Silent Hill f releases in September 2025, it will be a few months before Resident Evil Requiem debuts next February 27, 2026. And just a few days later, March 12, 2026it will be the turn of Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly Remake.
If we look back, Downpour marked the end (along with the forgettable Book of Memories on PS Vita) of the Konami saga, and Resident Evil 6 forced Capcom to restart the survival horror saga years later with Resident Evil 7.
In turn, Fatal Frame would still have a fifth installment in 2014, Maiden of Black Water, and then condemn its future to remasters and spin-off games far from the main series.
With Resident Evil and Silent Hill already in top form, fans hope Project Zero 2 remake resurrects Koei Tecmo’s terrible franchise to greenlight a sixth installment in the future. And we cross our fingers that this will be the case.
Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake already has a release date: March 12, 2026. The title will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PCbesides arriving on the first day Final Game Pass and PC Game Pass on Xbox, Windows and the Microsoft cloud.
