Scorer of Real Madrid’s goal in the 2-1 defeat against Manchester City, Rodrygo was one of the most sought-after players after the final whistle this Wednesday (10/12). Despite the good individual performance, the Brazilian did not hide his feeling of frustration with the result and the delicate moment the team was going through.
The striker analyzed the team’s performance, regretted the decisive errors and highlighted the importance of internal unity to overcome the turbulent phase that even affects coach Xabi Alonso.

The Brazilian admitted that he was going through a period below expectations, but stressed that he continues to work intensely to return to his usual level.
One of the most memorable moments of the match was Rodrygo’s embrace of Xabi Alonso immediately after the goal. This gesture quickly had repercussions on social networks, fueling discussions about the pressure suffered by the coach.
Rodrygo explained the reason:
“It’s a difficult moment. It’s for us and it’s also for him. Things aren’t working out and I wanted to show people that we are united with our coach. They often try to create a lot of controversy and I just wanted to say that we are united and we need this unity to move forward and achieve our goal,” he reflected.
He also spoke about his own performance and the importance of scoring again after a difficult stretch.
“I really needed to score. I always try to score, I always try to help, but I wasn’t at my best. These are things that happen in football. I’m sad about the defeat, but I hope that with this goal and this performance I can get back to my best and help the team,” he said.
“It wasn’t enough”
Rodrygo rated Real Madrid’s performance in the match. According to him, the team had an excellent first half, but failed to turn it into a positive result.
“It was not enough. We are very frustrated today because we played very well in the first half. In the first minutes we wanted to start everything and we did it. Then we scored a goal, but in the end it was not enough. We have to improve,” he said.
The Brazilian pointed out that matches at this level are decided by small details, precisely where Real failed.
“We know that these matches are always decided by details, like dead balls. That’s what happened. It frustrates us because we practice these things a lot and then it happens in the game. We are disappointed, but we have to move forward, that’s all we can do,” he analyzed.

Asked about the boos heard at the Santiago Bernabéu, the striker responded naturally and acknowledged the weight of playing for the club.
“It’s normal. We know that Real Madrid is a very demanding club, the fans are very demanding. We have been here for many years and we know that this is what happens when we are not doing well. It’s fair. We have to try to improve and get out of this situation.”
The defeat and the irregular moment increase the pressure on the team and on Xabi Alonso. At the same time, Rodrygo’s statements reinforce the fact that the group understands the demands, assumes its responsibilities and is trying to unite to return to the path to victory.
