The game
The duel at the Mineirão stadium started with the Corinthians putting pressure on their opponent. With more possession of the ball, Timão rounded goalkeeper Cássio’s area and put the archer to work in the sixth minute. He performed a miracle after a corner.
Even with the pressure in black and white, Kaio Jorge responded moments later, but stopped on Hugo Souza. Then Matheus Pereira finished at the edge of the area and the black and white goalkeeper saved once again. After good chances, Corinthians opened the scoring.
In the 21st minute, Carrillo received the ball on the right side of the offensive field and crossed the box. Yuri Alberto walked towards the small area. Memphis Depay finishes twice and the ball ends up in the back of the net: 1 x 0. The match continues to be quite busy, but the duel continues at half-time with the Corinthians in the lead.
Cruzeiro almost equalized in the first play of the 2nd half, but Hugo Souza saved Arroyo’s header. Raposa continued to improve throughout the first part of the final phase and again forced the black and white goalkeeper to make a good save and prevent the tie on the scoreboard.
Raposa continued to pile up chances and pose plenty of danger for Hugo Souza’s goal. Despite the numerous chances created, Cruzeiro failed to find the net. Meanwhile, Corinthians tried to reach the goal through counterattacks, but also failed to convert and extend the advantage on the scoreboard.
