An important and very exciting day at the Madrid Assembly which is expected next July. Isabel Díaz Ayuso faces questions from the opposition for the first time since the Torrejón de Ardoz hospital scandal broke. This revelation, published by EL PAÍS, caused enormous indignation in a country, Spain, where health is a national heritage. The periodical recounts some audios where the CEO of the company that privately and publicly manages this center -Riberale- and asks its managers to increase the waiting lists of patients to obtain greater benefits.
The Government of Madrid has insisted that these orders will not be carried out by anyone and that inspections of former professionals have been carried out which demonstrate, again according to their information, that there are no irregularities in the operation of the hospital. The main manager of the Ribera group, Emmanuel de Geuser, assures that these audios were taken out of context and that the crisis was produced by an internal battle within the company, which adds to the climate of political tension that exists in the country.
However, this periodical published the complete audio of the meeting held by the CEO, Pablo Gallart, with hospital directors and demonstrated that there is nothing decontextualized. Gallart says that even if there are losses, the center will continue to operate, but this statement does not change the sentence that calls for changing several processes to increase EBITDA, a key financial indicator to clearly show a company’s accounts.
The PSOE and More Madrid will take the initiative on this subject, as reflected in the agenda. Its spokespersons, Mar Espinar and Manuela Bergerot, are defenders of public health, very critical of the private management model proposed by Ayuso. Quirón’s company, the largest private health group in Madrid, was also completely betrayed.
Those from the left parties also wanted the opening of a commission of inquiry to analyze the political and economic responsibilities of the relations between the Community of Madrid and the Madrid Network association, a “chiringuito” created by Esperanza Aguirre in which large sums of public money were lost. The PP is opposed to this commission and, as it has a majority in the chamber, it will not be carried out. The PSOE filed an amparo appeal before the Constitutional Court.
Ayuso will have plenty of argumentative ammunition at his disposal. Corruption scandals around the central government, as well as cases of accidents in which several socialist leaders have been involved, will ensure the security of collaboration.
