2025 was a year full of economic changes, surprises and sudden movements in almost every market. With inflation at 24.8% between January and October (all data as of the time of writing), many Argentines were looking for ways to protect their money.
Gold continues its upward trend
Some options worked very well, others fell far short of expectations. This is a simple and straightforward look at what happened to each relevant investment of the year.

Gold: the big winner of 2025 around the world
The best performing asset this year was gold. In dollar terms, it rose nearly 60%, huge growth for an asset that typically moves more slowly. Why did this happen? Especially because it is chosen as a “refuge” by many people and many institutions in times of global uncertainty. When the global economic outlook is worrisome, gold prices tend to rise, with almost no pause in 2025.

It was without a doubt the star investment of the year worldwide.
The international market: strong stocks, weak cryptocurrencies
Those investing in the 500 largest companies in the U.S. – known as the “S&P 500” – also had a good year, with gains of nearly 16% in dollar terms. The year started badly for these companies, but by the end they fully recovered.

The downside was Bitcoin. The world’s largest cryptocurrency has seen significant gains in previous years, but it has failed to maintain this momentum in 2025. It rose 35% but then fell and currently has a price practically the same as in early 2025.
The dollar in Argentina: officially above, Blue below
Just as gold was the global star, the dollar was once again the protagonist in Argentina. But not all dollars had the same path.
He official dollar The price rose from 1,048 to 1,475 pesos so far this year, an increase of nearly 40.7%. It was one of the best returns in the country. The only problem: Until April, when the shares were still solid, almost no one could buy it freely. And as expected, the biggest increase came after the partial exit from the holdings, so few Argentines were able to benefit from this big increase.

He Blue dollarOn the other hand, it was at 1,215 pesos at the beginning of the year and today it is around 1,435 pesos, an increase of 18.1%. At first glance it seems good, but given inflation it ended up being a bad investment. In reality, those who bought blue They lost around 5.4% of their purchasing power. A far cry from his usual role of “reporting.” And let’s remember that there has not yet been any inflation for the month of November, which would lead to an even greater loss of purchasing power for those who bought the blue dollar in January this year.
Real estate: The brick did not accompany
Even buying real estate – something many have historically considered “safe” – was not a good investment in 2025. Between January and October, the average price per square meter increased by just 3.6%. Although their value is measured in dollars, they are still below inflation so far this year.

It was a very weak year for the real estate market with no clear signs of recovery.
The fixed term: simple, well-known and profitable in pesos
One of the big surprises of the year was the return of the fixed term as a profitable alternative. Although interest rates varied greatly from month to month, a saver who extended their fixed term each month with compound interest made a profit of almost 32% between January and October.
Fixed term in December 2025: This is how much the major banks will pay after the interest rate cut
With inflation at 24.8%, this corresponds to one 5.8% real profit. This means that it has not only maintained its value, but even increased it. For those looking for a simple and straightforward peso investment, the fixed term ended up being the best option.
Argentine stocks: a year full of ups and downs
The local stock market experienced one of the busiest years of the decade. The market fell almost 35% in nine months, but recovered strongly after the general election in October. With this increase, the index recorded a 20% increase over the year. The problem is that this figure represents a small real loss of 3.8% compared to inflation.
Nevertheless, there were companies that clearly stood out: Instituto Rosenbusch (ticker: ROSE) has recorded an increase of around 95% so far this year and Grimoldi (ticker: GRIM) has recorded almost 100%. For those positioned in these roles, 2025 has been excellent, although these are riskier investments and are not as predictable as even more traditional options.
So… What was the best investment of the year?
It depends on where you look:
● Worldwidewas the big winner Goldwhich increased by almost 60% and outperformed everything else.
● In Argentina in pesosperformed the best fixed termwith a real gain of almost 5.8%. When we don’t count certain actions.
● If we talk about dollarsthe largest increase was that of official dollaralthough it is difficult to use due to limited access.
● In local actionsAlthough there have been very successful successes in individual cases, the market average has not been able to exceed inflation.
The year 2025 made it clear that there is no magic formula: every investment has its moment. Again, it’s important to diversify and understand where each asset fits into the bigger picture.
