Goiania – The court of Jatay, a municipality located in southwest Goiás, recognized a settled marriage between a couple of three men. The court’s decision, issued on Friday (11/7), is unprecedented in the state. Tulio Adriano Márquez, Wellington Ferreira da Costa and Lucas Santana Delgado have been living together for five years.
The decision was signed by Judge Sabrina Rampazo de Oliveira, from the 6th Judicial Center for Conflict Resolution and Citizenship in Jatay. It highlights that both parties claim to maintain a general, continuous and permanent coexistence, with the aim of forming a family.

The court-recognized ex-spouses end up in a fight and protective measures
A stable union in a polygamous relationship is not recognized in Brazil, but spouses who wish to have their cohabitation recognized can resort to justice.
Long term relationship
The threesome began in 2019, when Tulio and Wellington, who had been in a relationship since 2014, started getting involved with Lucas. The application for the stable union was submitted by the Legal Practice Center of Çatay Federal University (NPJ-UFJ).
The judge notes that the three “freely expressed their desire to have the relationship recognized judicially, under the partial asset sharing system.” Legal and legal implications come into effect from the beginning of the relationship.
