The employers’ association of the private health sector, ASPE, announced this Thursday the departure of Carlos Rus from the presidency after 14 years at the head of the association. Although this decision comes in the midst of a scandal at Torrejón Hospital, a private public center in Madrid, due to a recording discovered by EL PAÍS of an internal meeting in which around twenty center managers were asked to allow waiting lists to increase and to select profitable processes, this organization stressed that RUS’ departure is due to “strictly personal” reasons.
Likewise, the ASPE confirmed the appointment as interim president of the current vice-president, Herminia Rodríguez Rosas, in accordance with what is indicated in the statutes of the association, which must guide the organization towards a new electoral process.
“I accept this challenge temporarily with the responsibility of representing a sector that faces exciting challenges and great growth opportunities with the aim of reaching the internal elections and promoting an even stronger and modern organization aimed at highlighting the relevance of private health as a driver of innovation, employment and contribution to the Spanish health system,” said Rodríguez, who will take office from January 1.
Rodríguez has held her current position since 2018, when she joined the board of directors in the hands of Cristina Contel, and has remained closely linked to the development of the private employers’ association in the health sector. According to the employers’ organization, this transitional stage will continue to aim to respond to the “many present and future challenges” of private health, maintaining its commitment to the development of the sector and the interests of all the companies that make it up.
