The Independent Central of Unions and Civil Servants (CSIF) awarded King Felipe VI its Distinction of Honor for “his commitment and defense of public services, and in recognition of its constitutional role as guarantor of unity, of our state of well-being and … the dignity of civil servants, at all levels of administration.
During an audience at the Zarzuela Palace this Thursday, the CSIF delegation, led by its president, Miguel Borra, underlined “the role of the Head of State, especially in very difficult times for our country, alongside the Queen: accompanying the victims disasters, visiting affected areas and providing direct and close support to emergency personnel and volunteer staff.
“We particularly remember dana, forest fires, volcano eruption on the island of La Palma or the covid epidemic”, said the CSIF in a statement, while emphasizing that “the role of the Crown highlights and represents the generosity, dedication and commitment that characterize Spanish society in the complicated and tragic circumstances of our country”.
Working conditions
The headquarters assures that this hearing “is very relevant for the CSIF also to demonstrate the recognition, respect and mutual gratitude between the Crown and the civil servants and to promote the work of workers in all administrations and public companies, whose working conditions are little recognized, which contrasts with their fundamental work, usually highlighted in difficult times by our leaders, in the media.
During the audience, the CSIF delegation and the King analyzed the main challenges of public administrations and the recent Framework Agreement for the improvement of public employment and service to citizens, which allowed the unblocking of the salary freeze, the payment of arrears from 2025 and a salary increase accumulated by 11.4% until 2028. Union officials also expressed to Don Felipe their concern about the deterioration of public services, “due to the lack of adequate investments”, the excessive politicization of administrations, the aging of the workforce and the need to strengthen personnel in organizations like the SEPE, and the high temporality.
