In his statement, Garrido explained that the decision would be added to other processes in which he believes he has achieved positive results. “Dear people, I am honored to announce that we also beat María José Pizarro. Today I add these to the medals I have for defeating Armando Benedetti and Isabel Zuleta“, he published in X, adding that he would continue his opinions on issues related to the national government.

In accordance with the decision signed by the rapporteur, Judge Misael Fernando Rodríguez Castellanos, and Judges Héctor Javier Alarcón Granobles, Francisco Javier Farfán Molina, Bona Velásquez and Cristina Lombana, The board concluded that the necessary conditions for the appeal to be admitted were not met.
The document shows that the complaint was filed on May 23, 2025 by Pizarro, who allegedly accused Garrido of aggravated libel and slander; However, after analyzing the publications from May 12 and 18, 2025, the court concluded that this did not constitute criminally relevant conduct.
In the text the chamber stated: “The mere statement of general statements reflecting the opinion that one person has about another person, and in particular in relation to an official, in a political and not in a personal context – in which his functions are called into question, as is the case here -, It does not have the objective ability to undermine the good name or honor of its recipient, as they are speech strongly protected by freedom of expression.“.

On May 22, 2025, Senator María José Pizarro publicly announced through a message on her In the publication, which was later deleted, he said: “I will not tolerate any campaign that tarnishes my name“.
The statement came after Garrido published several publications in which he mentioned Pizarro in situations related to parliamentary debates. One of them occurred during the Senate referendum vote, which was archived. The representative assured that the absence of Senator Martha Peralta this session was due to a “calculated move” that she attributed to Pizarro.
In his statement he noted: “The truth is that it was her friend María José Pizarro who, in an attempt to stop the appeal to revive labor reform, warned that the senators of the Seventh Commission would be prevented from voting.“, which, according to his publication, caused some members of Congress to leave the premises while the obstacle was removed, which affected the vote result.

Garrido also recalled an episode from 2019 during Iván Duque’s government in which, according to him, Pizarro interrupted a plenary session. He wrote: “Remember when, in 2019, during the government of Iván Duque, María José Pizarro adjourned the plenary session of the House of Representatives in order to sabotage the discussion,” pointing out that facts that were then considered valid by parts of the left are now being questioned.
After learning about the recent Supreme Court decision, Garrido emphasized that the court “has once again made it clear who is right” and reiterated that he would continue to speak publicly on legislative and policy issues.
