Vasco achieved an important and comeback victory in stoppage time against Fluminense this Thursday (11), in the first match of the semi-final of the Brazilian Cup. Vegetti scored the goal that sealed the 2-1 for Cruzmaltinos at the Maracanã.
Fluminense took the lead in the first half, with Kevin Serna. In the final phase, Rayan equalized and kept the match open until, in the last minutes, the Argentine center forward decided the classic.
It was the fourth meeting between the Rio rivals this season, and balance prevails. There are now two victories on each side. In the Brazilian Championship, each team achieved a triumph; in the state, the Laranjeiras team came first.
The fifth chapter of this duel will define the second finalist of the national tournament. Fernando Diniz’s team will have the advantage of the draw. Fluminense needs a simple victory to take the decision on penalties and a victory with more than two goals to advance directly.
The teams will face each other again on Sunday (14), still at the Maracanã, at 8:30 p.m. (Brasília time), with Fluminense as the home team.
Leaving the field, the hero of Vasco’s victory, who left the field upset last weekend, when he was replaced in the first half of the duel against Atlético Mineiro at the end of the Brazilian Championship, burst out.
“I am a fighter. I fight a lot for this jersey. With my life and my heart. I always want to defend this jersey in the best way. I am in a difficult moment, I am not playing much. For me it is always Vasco first,” he said.
The Argentine had not scored since October 26, when he scored twice in the victory against Red Bull Bragantino on Matchday 30 of the Nacional.
In the other semi-final, Corinthians took the lead over Cruzeiro by winning 1-0 at Mineirão, in Belo Horizonte. The Dutchman Memphis Depay scored the goal which guaranteed the victory for the black and whites.
The reunion will also take place on Sunday (14), in Itaquera, at 6 p.m. (Brasilia time). Corinthians play for a draw to advance. If Cruzeiro wins by goal difference, the place will be determined on penalties.
