The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), declared this Thursday (12/11) that he was unaware that the protocol he had activated to interrupt the session on Tuesday (12/9) determined the exclusion of journalists from the plenary.
The explanation was given during a meeting with the House Press Committee to provide clarification on the attacks on journalists and after the interruption of TV Câmara broadcasts during the unrest caused by the forced dismissal of deputy Glauber Braga (PSol-RJ) from the Board of Directors.

According to the commission’s report, the House speaker said that before determining the action of the Legislative Police Department (Depol), he tried to convince Glauber to leave the House speakership and go to the cabinet to discuss the impasse regarding possible impeachment. Faced with the refusal, he declared that he had telephoned several times the first secretary, Carlos Veras (PT-PE), who accompanied Glauber in plenary. Fearing a repeat of episodes similar to Bolsonaro’s August riot, Motta ordered the congressman’s forced removal.
The President of the House denied having ordered the cutting of the TV Câmara signal. He indicated that he had only ordered the suspension of the session, which automatically interrupts the broadcast of the plenary. The channel then began broadcasting the Health Commission meeting, as per standard procedure.
Regarding the withdrawal of journalists, Motta said that Glauber’s refusal to leave the Council activated a Depol security protocol which provides for the total emptying of the plenary. He reiterated that he did not know that the procedure prevented the press from remaining on site.
“When he learned about it, he asked Depol for the return of the press, but this was not possible because it was not provided for in the protocol. Motta said he would study changes to the regulations to avoid further restrictions on the work of journalists in plenary and in the gallery,” says the note published by the press commission.
