At the end of the group stage of the Women’s World Club Volleyball Championship, this Thursday (11/12), the hosts Osasco/São Cristóvão Saúde secured the last place in the semi-finals by beating Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu, by 3 sets to 2, partial scores of 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 25-18 and 19-17, saving three match points.
The slat will now rise absurdly. In the semi-final, Saturday, at 4:30 p.m., at the Ginásio do Pacaembu, in São Paulo, the duel will face Conegliano, current holder of the world title and champion of everything in Italy and Europe.
And today’s performance serves as a warning for the decisive weekend of the World Cup. Osasco experienced many moments of instability and saw its Kazakh rival extend the match to the tie-break, giving up 32 points on errors.
Even though they had already qualified by winning the first set, Luizomar de Moura’s team experienced an absurd drop in concentration, saw their rival react and tired more than they should have before the semi-final.
INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES
Bianca Cugno, second top scorer in the World Cup before today’s match, behind Ekaterina Antropova, was not at her best. He scored only one point in the first set, went to the bench, came back, returned to the reserve and finished the duel with 16.
Without the opposing player in the spotlight, American Caitie Baird took the lead offensively early, but dropped off in production like the rest of the team. He ended up playing as an opposing player, scoring 20 points. The one who was the most consistent in Osasco was the central Mayhara, with 17 additional points, including five in blocks.
After taking over, Luizomar changed a lot, ending the duel with Marina Sioto, Natalia Danielski, Valquíria and Maira as starters.
