Monterrey (Mexico), December 11 (EFE). – The Argentine Antonio Mohamed, coach of the Mexican football Toluca, assured this Thursday that his team has the desire to win the title of the Apertura tournament of Mexican football and that on Sunday they will beat Tigres UANL by two goals.
“We are not dead; we have to score two goals to become champions, but today is not such a bad result. The series is open, we have a chance at home and everyone knows our strength in Toluca,” said the strategist after the 0-1 defeat against Tigres in the first leg of the final.
With a goal from Argentine world champion Ángel Correa, the Tigres defeated Toluca and on Sunday they will go to the home of their rival with the idea of maintaining their lead in the series and winning the championship.
Mohamed explained that Correa’s goal came because of a mistake by goalkeeper Hugo González at the start of the second half, which complicated matters, but expressed optimism.
“We have a lot of energy and confidence to turn it around,” he added.
Toluca has played the crucial phase of the championship without striker Alexis Vega, one of the spark plugs of its attack, who is recovering from injury. Mohamed indicated that the player will not be out on Sunday, but we will have to wait and see how he develops.
“We still have three days left. Alexis really wants to be there, so we will watch the training session tomorrow and Saturday. He knows himself and will know if he can be there,” he commented.
Referring to goalkeeper González’s failure, he recalled that football is about mistakes and successes and that no one will remember the bad save when they become champions.
“The team has to overcome this. Nobody likes to lose, but a defeat helps to do everything on Sunday,” he concluded.
Toluca is seeking its 12th league title, which would see it surpass Guadalajara as the league’s second-most winning team. Tigres is aiming for its ninth title.
