The case surrounding the murder of Mateo Yagame (18) in Los Hornos is entering crucial hours. After yesterday’s hearing, the victim’s family will be informed today of the decision that will regulate the future of the 14-year-old youth identified as the perpetrator of the crime. This was communicated to Claudia, Mateo’s grandmother, who went to court expecting an answer, which ultimately did not come.
As Claudia explained in contact with EL DIA, what she experienced that morning revealed once again the abuse that the family has felt since the beginning of the file. The hearing was originally scheduled for 10 a.m. but was brought forward to 9 a.m. without any formal notice. Later, around 10 a.m., they were informed that the appointment would be postponed to 11:30 a.m. as the transfer of the minor was not yet completed. “A whole network and maneuvers, a great joke,” described the grandmother.
“After so much abuse and so much disrespect, we didn’t go in. We stayed outside and waited for the prosecutor and the lawyer to come out. We will no longer allow them to continue to think we are stupid,” Claudia said, not hiding her anger.
They also received no direct communication from the judge throughout the day. “We found out over the phone. The judge notifies the lawyer and the lawyer tells us. He doesn’t even show them his face to tell them,” he said, describing the feeling of institutional neglect they have had since January.
After hours of uncertainty, the hearing finally ended in a virtual break room. The decision was not announced yesterday, as initially expected, but, as confirmed, on Thursday. The expectation is to learn whether the judge will decide to extend the security measure until the minor reaches the age of majority, as the family claims, or whether he will agree to his release after the end of the current sentence.
“We’re not asking for anything outside the law. We’re just asking that they make responsible decisions. We’ve already lost Mateo, but we don’t want other families to have to go through the same thing,” Claudia said. The family, affected by months of waiting, re-victimization and emotional exhaustion, assures that they will remain steadfast until the end. It should be recalled that Mateo was murdered on January 13, about 135, between 78 and 79 meters from his house. And his family is reeling from the pain that his life ended abruptly while the person responsible was free again.
