The PNV spokesperson in Congress, Maribel Vaquero, has stated that she would “bet” that there will be legislative elections in 2026 due to the “crisis” the government is facing, although she does not know when they might take place.
After admitting that President Pedro Sánchez “has the button” to call elections, he said he did not know how long he could “hold out” from “the crisis that they are having,” stressing that in addition to the alleged corruption cases linked to the Socialists, there is also “the rift that is opening up within his own party over the issue of women’s complaints of sexual harassment.”
In an interview with Onda Vasca compiled by Europa Press, Vaquero admitted that the state panorama is “quite complicated and the danger of the legislature is increasing.” In his opinion, we see a government that “does not know how to respond forcefully to everything that comes its way” due to alleged cases of corruption involving former socialist officials or due to complaints about alleged cases of sexual harassment within the PSOE.
The Yeltzale boss believes that there is a leader who is “a little disoriented,” who “does not take the reins,” and who has no answer to all of this, which is why “the concern is even greater.” Furthermore, she believes that there is “concern and anger, especially in the socialist ranks” and especially among the women of the PSOE, “who do not understand what is happening within the party”.
The PNV will act with composure
Maribel Vaquero has called on the government to “act vigorously and transparently”. “We’re also watching all of this news, the cases that are popping up day after day.” In any case, he said that they wanted to “act with composure against gravity.”
“Since it is also not good to often act in any way and hastily, it must be done out of the responsibility that each individual has taken on. It is true that we are only five representatives in the House of Representatives, but we want to do responsible work,” he explained.
“A BIG RED LINE”
In any case, he has warned that there is a “big red line” and if it were crossed they would do what they did with the Popular Party, namely withholding support for Mariano Rajoy’s board after the decision in the Belt case and supporting the no-confidence motion that supported Sánchez. However, he pointed out that the PNV had an investiture agreement that it wanted to “bring to fruition during the legislative period.”
After affirming that it is President Pedro Sánchez who “has the button to call the elections,” he indicated that he does not know how much he can bear with “the crisis they are having,” focusing on “the rift that is opening within his own party due to women’s complaints of sexual harassment.”
