
The first cousin of insult – which we were talking about yesterday – is blasphemy, which the RAE dictionary defines as “insulting words or expressions against someone or someone sacred”, very close to oaths and denials. But don’t panic, there will be no need for soap: if the other day I seemed patriotic, I must admit that – for better or for worse – these expressions are particularly frequent in Italy, so that we can later talk about the country with the Vatican at its center! And that, in my experience, in Spain we are quite respectful of the divine family, with the exception of occasional eschatological references to God or the Virgin which I will avoid (since I already have a bunch of sins under my belt)….
