The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) has issued an alert due to the presence of Salmonella spp. detected in frozen sliced chicken skewers.
The incident was detected during official controls in the Spanish market and, although the product was not distributed outside Spain, the authorities applied immediate measures to protect consumers, such as informing the recipients (distributors or recipient establishments) and withdrawing the product from the recipients.
During a sample, the presence of Salmonella spp. in 25 grams and one positive sample out of a total of five analyzed. According to microbiological criteria, the presence of Salmonella in poultry meat intended for further consumption is unacceptable, since there must be a complete absence in 25 grams of the sample.
The competent authorities have classified the risk as “potentially serious”, meaning that, even if its scale is controlled, salmonellosis can cause:
- Acute gastroenteritis
- Fever
- Vomiting
- severe diarrhea
