The Fira de Barcelona closes the year with revenues of 350 million euros, an increase of 17%. This is an unprecedented figure that characterizes the growth journey of the public-private organization in a year in which, beyond fairs, exhibitions and commercial and industrial promotion events, it made its debut in the management of the Circuit of Catalonia. The F1 Grand Prix, the MotoGP race and other events held at the Circuit represent 13% of Fira’s turnover, with the hope of continuing to grow with activities related to new forms of mobility and the projection of being able to organize some of the events of the almighty Mobile World Congress (MWC) in the facilities of the Montmeló circuit.
During the presentation of the results which took place this Friday, the advise of the Company Miquel Sàmper highlighted that Fira Barcelona is synonymous with “quality employment” and “wealth for Catalonia” and positively valued that the entity “continues to grow” driven by the “solidity of the events it organizes”. Fairs like Alimentaria or Expoquimia have existed for more than half a century and, together with the Saló de l’Ensenyament, Caravaning, Construmat or the Boat Show, they represent the consolidated base that has allowed us to promote world-renowned events such as the MWC, the ISE or the Smart City Expo World Congress. The fact that the Fira de Barcelona has assumed management of the Circuit de Catalunya should allow, according to Sàmper, that “the impact of the Circuit goes beyond automobile testing, with a diversification of activities”.
The President of the Board of Directors of Fira, Pau Relat, celebrated “the excellent evolution” shown by the results and the General Director of Fira, Constantí Serrallonga, highlighted that “the institution is experiencing one of its best moments”.
Neither showed concern about the recent move to Madrid of The District real estate fair, “this is becoming normal”, they said, and the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, stressed that the municipality had proposals on the table to organize in the future a fair specializing in social and protected housing, an economic sector “in full swing” and “with a lot of progress in the years to come”, he said.
The activity of the fair institution has an economic impact of more than 6 billion euros in Catalonia and generates 50,000 direct and indirect jobs.
In spring 2026, work is planned to begin to transform the Montjuïc site into a “modern, urban and unique in Europe” space, and the inauguration is planned for 2029. The renovation project is linked to an environmental renovation that will transform the Poble Sec district and allow the construction of 550 officially protected apartments, the mayor said.
