Images of the attack began circulating on social media and reached authorities in the municipality of Zona da Mata, Minas Gerais.
According to the police, as soon as the video went viral, the team from the Specialized Women’s Assistance Police Station (Deam) joined the Ubá Municipal Guard to identify the suspect and investigate the case. The delegate in charge of the investigation, Fabrícia Nunes Noronha listened to the victim, requested an expertise and requested an urgent protection measure for the 19-year-old girl.
The video shows the man hitting and biting the young woman. She reported to police that she had suffered psychological violence and received death threats before the episode.
The victim also said arguments in the relationship were driven by jealousy. The man allegedly started the attacks at the cinema after seeing an unknown call on the young woman’s cell phone.
The Minas Gerais court accepted the investigators’ arguments and granted the issuance of a preventive arrest warrant against the man. Local police launched Operation Têmis, with the aim of holding the attacker accountable and guaranteeing the protection of the victim.
The investigation showed that after the attack, the suspect began posting offensive messages on his social networks in reaction to criticism of his conduct at the cinema. Teams began monitoring him to prevent any escape attempts. During the investigation to execute the arrest warrant, officers discovered quantities of drugs at the defendant’s home.
According to the civil police, the suspect will be charged with assault and battery and the investigation will be transferred to the judiciary. Hugo was sent to the prison system.
