The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddaddeclared Friday evening, 12, that at the time of taking office, he had estimated, with other ministers, that the country’s economy could never be a problem for the re-election of the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
While receiving a tribute from the Prerrogativas group, in São Paulo, Haddad recalled a comment made earlier by President Lula himself, during the inauguration ceremony of the television channel SBT Newsthat the recent forecasts of economists did not work and that what worked was Brazil.
“He said, looking at the governor of São Paulo: ‘Have you seen, Tarcísio (from Freitas)that not all the predictions of federal government economists have come true. What worked was Brazil. What worked was the country’s economy. And that’s why we are happy,” Haddad said, adding that anyone betting against Brazil was wrong.
“And the fact that we are coming to the end of the third year of this mandate and that we are looking to the future with the possibility of seeing President Lula facing new elections in the name of democracy, development and social justice with very favorable prospects is something that makes me very happy today,” he said.
The minister also recalled the invitation made by Lula to occupy the Treasury and that the president made “fall in love” with the projects.
In an interview with Stage/Broadcast in November, Haddad expressed satisfaction with his performance as head of the department and said has already delivered to President Lula everything that had been ordered from him. He left his post in May next year.
