The National Audience (AN) decides this Saturday whether to send the former PSOE activist to temporary prison or to release her. Díez, Fernández and Alonso were arrested last Wednesday for irregularities in public procurement by agents of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, as part of an operation led by the Central Investigation Court 6 of the National Court, of which Piña is the head, in coordination with the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
The crimes for which they are being investigated in this case, which is subject to summary secrecy, are prevarication, embezzlement, influence peddling and criminal organization.

Leire Díez’s connection with SEPI companies
The former PSOE activist is also under investigation for alleged crimes of influence peddling and corruption in a case led by the president of the Court of Instruction number 9 of Madrid, for allegedly offering favors in exchange for information on members of the Army Institute and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. Judge Arturo Zamarriego believes that the former socialist advisor “carries out” a “continuous and coordinated criminal action” to “collect compromised or irregular information” in order to “cancel or waste” investigations into “relevant matters that affect politicians and businesspeople.” Díez told the judge on November 17 that he had two meetings with Cerdán, while clarifying that it was as a journalist and that he had no connection with the party or offered any favors. And she reviewed her professional life, indicating that in 2018 she joined Enusa, where she was until 2021, when she went on voluntary leave to Correos as head of institutional relations, both companies dependent on SEPI.

In parallel with the arrests, the UCO has been exercising since Wednesday about twenty entries and files and requirements of documentation in organizations, companies and addresses that would be linked to the suspected contracts in several provinces, including Madrid, Zaragoza, Seville or Navarra. So, the agents came to ask for information at SEPI or at the Post Officeand registered the registered office of Enusaa public company dependent on the first and in which Leire Díez was hired as communications manager coinciding with the period when Vicente Fernández chaired SEPI (2018-2019). At the Post Office, where she became director of Philately, she held several positions until 2023. This Friday, on the eve of their appearance in court, the UCO addressed the organizations dependent on the Ministries of Finance and Ecological Transitionmainly general management, looking for documentation on contracts and subsidies under the microscope of researchers.
