From the Jericino complex, in the western region of Rio, to the federal prison in Catandovas, in Paraná. The seven heads of the Vermelho Comando suspected of ordering barricades and reprisals for the massive police operation, carried out on the 28th, in the Penha and Alemão favela complexes, will be transferred on Wednesday afternoon, as reported by Malu Gaspar’s blog. All those transferred had provisions related to drug trafficking and were included in the federal system in implementation of Law No. 11671/2008 regulating the transfer of high-risk prisoners.

Catandovas is the same prison where Fernandinho Beira Mar, the first inmate in the federal penal system, who “inaugurated” the unit in 2006, according to the blog, is held. But they must have no contact with Pira Mar, nor with each other. The transfer came at the request of the Rio government after the massive operation that left 121 people dead in the Alemão and Benha compounds in the northern region of Rio. Before the episode, the state had 58 prisoners in the federal system, but that did not prevent CV from expanding its control.
