A recent survey found that people with an adventurous spirit are broadening their horizons by targeting unusual but affordable overseas vacation destinations. Cities like Paris, Rome or London remain among the most sought after, but Eastern Europe is gaining more and more importance.

“Cities like Prague, Krakow, Budapest, Tirana and Sarajevo are attracting travelers’ attention with cheaper-than-average airfares, a rich history, a vibrant food scene and fewer crowds than traditional Western European tourist centers,” says Kayak’s latest travel report.

According to the study, seven of the ten most trendy destinations for 2026 are in this region of Europe. However, the most popular destination for travelers is in Oceania: Christchurch, New Zealand.
Also according to the report, interest in air travel for 2026 increased by 9% compared to 2025. Domestic airfares fell by 3% and international airfares by 10%.
