Red Dead Redemption 2 surpasses Mario Kart 8 in sales and Rockstar already has two titles among the 5 best-selling in history

The latest sales of Red Dead Redemption 2 place it among the top 5 best-selling games in history, but we haven’t seen the Definitive Edition yet.

Amid the new delay of GTA 6 -almost disastrous-, at Rockstar Games we saw its fiscal results updated with GTA V adding more numbers and Red Dead Redemption 2 rising yet another position.

So, the Story of Arthur Morgan run away between 5 best-selling games in history next to Michael, Trevor and Franklin narrowly beating Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

As detailed by its publisher, Take-Two Interactive, in its report dated November 6, 2025, it is stated that the Red Dead Redemption sequel has sold over 79 million copies worldwide.

What does this”the best-selling title of the last seven years in the United States in terms of dollar sales” and brings the total number of distributed copies of the saga to 106 million.

Thanks to a context we see at IGN, in the last seven years we have seen incredible games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Hogwarts Legacy and/or Elden Ring with 48,62, 34 and 30 million in sales respectively.

Not to mention the releases of the last decade and in addition to Minecraft, GTA V and Wii Sports with their 350, 220 and 82.9 million copies sold respectively, Red Dead Redemption 2 surpassed them all.

With 79 million copies sold, the Arthur Morgan’s Adventure comes in 4th place and leaves Mario racing game for Nintendo Switch in fifth place with estimated sales of 78.02 million.

This is followed by PUBG (75 million), The Oregon Trail (65 million), Terraria (64 million), The Witcher 3 (60 million) and Super Mario Bros. original from 1985 with 58 million games sold.

Now we just need to know if Red Dead Redemption 3 is as close as Dan Houser believes or if the much talked about Definitive Edition of Red Dead Redemption 2 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S arrives sooner.

In the report, Strauss Zelnick also highlights Mafia: The Old Country for having exceeded the company’s expectations, although without giving numbers. Something similar happened with NBA 2K26, the basketball simulator.
