The Andalusian Emergency Agency (EMA) sent an ES alert message to cell phones in the 36 municipalities that make up the meteorological region of Valle del Almanzora and Los Vélez, in Almería, in a red alert due to rain.
The National Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated the “red” level alert (extraordinary danger) due to the torrential rains expected for tomorrow in some areas, which could accumulate more than 250 liters per square meter in twelve hours.
The most unfavorable situations, which justified the activation of the “red” alert, will be located in the Almanzora and Los Velez valley, where precipitation can accumulate up to 120 liters per square meter.
The National Meteorological Agency warned of the adversities expected for tomorrow also through social networks, where it highlighted that the warning is a “red” level due to the expected torrential rains that will mainly affect the north and south coasts of Valencia and the Almanzora Valley and Los Vélez in Almería.
This organization warned of possible floods and flash floods of river beds, stressed that the danger is “extraordinary” and stressed the importance of following the recommendations of Civil Protection.
The high-impact storm Emilia, which hit the Canary Islands hard today, is moving towards the peninsula and the precipitation will be heavy or very heavy, and even torrential in some areas of eastern Andalusia, Valencia, southeast Castilla-La Mancha and Murcia, an episode that will last all day tomorrow and continue until Monday.
The Minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen, contacted the presidents of the Valencian Community and Andalusia in response to the activation of red alerts due to adverse weather phenomena and called on the population to follow the instructions of the emergency services.
The third vice president informed the presidents of the Valencian Community, Juan Francisco Pérez Llorca, and of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, that she and her team were closely monitoring the evolution of the meteorological situation in their territories and making themselves available to respond to any needs.
