In the heat and also in stoppage time, Arsenal managed to beat Wolverhampton, 2-1, at the Emirates Stadium, and stay at the top of the English Championship. The victory was achieved with two goals against the opponent, confirming the terrible stage of the competition, with only two points won in 16 days.
Arsenal opened the scoring in the 25th minute, with help from Wolverhampton goalkeeper Johnstone. Saka took a corner, the ball hit the post, behind the opponent’s back, and went in. The home team conceded a draw after 44 minutes of play in the second half. Tolu Arokodare scored with a header.
However, the bottom of the Premier League suffered a major blow, with Mosquera heading his own goal in injury time. Brazilian Gabriel Jesus was in contention with the Wolverhampton defender and was greatly celebrated by his Arsenal teammates. However, during the celebration, the former Palmeiras striker pointed out that he had not touched the ball. It was only his second game of the season, having recovered from a serious left knee injury that kept him sidelined for almost 11 months.
With this result, Arsenal reached 36 points and remains the isolated leader of the English Championship. Manchester City are second, with 31, and face Crystal Palace in London this Sunday.
