Lisbon, December 13 (EFE). – Colombian striker Luis Suárez became this Saturday’s top scorer in the Portuguese League, where he has scored 11 goals so far this season, after scoring a brace in Sporting’s win over AVS (6-0), to which his Uruguayan teammate Maxi Araújo also contributed with two goals.
Sporting only needed five minutes in the first half to take the lead. Suarez opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a right-footed shot that bounced off the body of his AVS compatriot Cristian Devenish after a pass from Ricardo Mangas.
Three minutes later, Araújo scored the second goal, following an assist from Vagiannidis, who, after advancing down the right wing, shot into the middle, where the former Toluca player appeared in the heart of the penalty area.
Sporting extended their lead in the 37th minute after Kochorashvili headed in Geny Catamo, who scored the third goal of the night.
Although the game was decided, the Lisbon team’s flood of goals against the bottom team did not stop in the second half.
In fact, shortly after returning to the field, Araújo scored a brace in the 47th minute when he received a low pass from Vagiannidis from the right, which he took advantage of without hesitation.
In the 53rd minute, Suárez scored the goal that made him the Portuguese League’s top scorer, from a corner kick from Trincão that Matheus Reis deflected at the near post for Suárez to then finish, increasing the score to 5-0.
In this way, the former Zaragoza player becomes the top scorer of the Portuguese tournament, ahead of the Greek Pavlidis of Benfica and the Brazilian Clayton of Rio Ave, both with ten goals.
The sixth goal of the evening came in stoppage time, thanks to Geny, who scored a brace with a low shot on goal.
With this victory, the Green-Whites have 35 points and remain second in the provisional table, behind Porto with 37 points and ahead of Benfica with 29, who face Estrela da Amadora on Monday and Moreirense tomorrow, respectively. EFE
